Susan Rice says she is considering running for the Senate seat currently held by Susan Collins. I can see it now. She loses the election on Tuesday and then hits all the Sunday shows insisting that she really won but that the Russians tampered with the vote and besides, people voted against her after seeing a 12-minute internet video. Or maybe, she could suggest that she is leading from behind like Obama did. Then she can say that Benedict Arnold served the country with “Honor and Distinction.” She might suggest that the polls opened too early and that everyone knows people don’t like Rice for breakfast. Oh, I hope she runs. I’m not out of jokes yet.
Susan Rice, the national security adviser to former President Barack Obama, expressed interest Friday in challenging Maine Sen. Susan Collins in 2020, following the Republican’s announcement that she will vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
“Who wants to run for Senate in Maine? there will be an army of supporters with you,” former Obama White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki wrote on Twitter following Collins’s announcement of support for Kavanaugh.
“Me,” replied Rice.
It was not immediately clear if Rice is serious about challenging Collins, who was first elected to the Senate in 1996. Collins won her last re-election bid by a wide margin, winning 68 percent of the vote against her Democratic challenger.
Collins was heavily criticized after announcing her support for Kavanaugh, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by three women.
Mark my words, Rice will be walking this back before the weekend is over. The last thing she needs is more embarrassment.
